Guardian Program

Have future plans been made for your furry family members? Enroll in ARF's Guardian Program and have peace of mind that your beloved pets will be cared for when the need arises. When a guardian passes away, dogs and cats enrolled in the Guardian Program will be taken into ARF while ARF works to place them in just the right home. The program is available for dogs and cats with a limit of two pets per person.

It's easy to enroll your pets in the Guardian Program:

  • Make annual donations to ARF. Any gift, large or small, will be used to save animals' lives.
  • Complete the Guardian Program Pet Biography, providing information about the pet's food preferences, likes and dislikes, habits and special needs.
  • Specify in Will or trust documents that the guardian's pet is to be entrusted to ARF at the time of death: "At the time of my death, I give my pet(s) to the Guardian Program for placement in a loving home."
  • Designate a friend, relative or the estate executor to act as interim caretaker and to bring the companion animal to ARF's caring staff.
  • Send a copy of the completed Pet Biography form to ARF and keep a copy with the guardian's Will. ARF recommends updating the form every six months.
  • Each pet will need to pass a behavioral assessment to be re-homed.
