Stars to the Rescue 2017 recap

Stars to the Rescue XXVI was held Saturday, January 7, 2017. Kevin Nealon; Huey Lewis and the Almost News; BOSTYX featuring David Victor; Bernie Williams and Teammates; a drum-off featuring world-class percussionists Horacio Hernandez, Mike Mangini, and Karl Perazzo; Taylor Brown; and the All-Star Band performed to a sold-out crowd at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.

Proceeds from Stars to the Rescue allow ARF to save dogs and cats who have run out of time at public shelters and support programs that bring people and animals together to enrich each other's lives.

Bernie Williams and Teammates

Bernie spent the entirety of his incredible 16-year baseball career with the New York Yankees, winning four World Series Championships and was a five-time MLB All-Star.

Bernie spent the entirety of his incredible 16-year baseball career with the New York Yankees, winning four World Series Championships and was a five-time MLB All-Star. Bernie is also an accomplished classically trained guitarist, and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2009.

  • Horacio Hernandez is a drummer, composer, and has a unique “Latin Fusion” style, melding the folkloric clave with the fierce punch, crisp snap and deep grooves of today’s Jazz, Pop, and Rock.
  • Mike Mangini set five World's Fastest Drummer records is a member of the progressive metal band Dream Theater.  He has also played for bands and artists such as Annihilator, Extreme, James LaBrie, and Steve Vai. 
  • Karl Perazzo, best known as a percussionist with Santana, has also performed and recorded with Mariah Carey, Dizzy Gillespie, Phish, The United Nations Orchestra and John Lee Hooker.
  • Special guest appearance - Oakland native Robb Flynn is the lead vocalist and guitarist of heavy metal band Machine Head.  Their 2007 release The Blackening climbed to #54 on the US Billboard and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
