ARF is offering a virtual adoption process by appointment only.
Thank you for considering adoption and saving a life! ARF understands the importance of choosing the right pet for your family, and provides a friendly, customer-oriented adoption service.
We know this is an extraordinary situation, and appreciate your understanding with our new adoption process, which has been put into place for your safety and the safety of our staff. If you see an animal you're interested in on our website, fill out an inquiry form that includes the name of the animal and your contact information. Once your inquiry has been received, you will be added to our virtual queue. Be ready to answer the call from ARF to keep your place in the queue.
Due to the high volume of inquiries, it is unfortunately not possible to respond back to all inquiries once an animal has been adopted. However, adoption updates can be found on twitter at @ARFadoptions. We are accepting one (1) specific animal per inquiry. If you are interested in more than one animal, please submit separate inquiries. Our new adoption hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm, and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. Then we'll start the process of getting you a new furry family member!
To maintain recommended social distance, all interaction will be done using email and phone calls, up until the moment you take your new companion home. If you have space in your heart and home, there has never been a better time to adopt! ARF's team is excited to guide you in choosing a pet, share information about their history and behavior while at ARF, and provide resources. This process can take time — please allow for up to one hour.
Adopters must be 18 or older with valid ID.
ARF adopts to the first good match and does not place animals on hold. Those interested in a specific pet should submit an adoption inquiry.
ARF will adopt a dog or cat to a family living outside the San Francisco Bay Area if the adopter can pick up the animal in person at ARF. ARF encourages those who cannot travel to ARF to contact a nearby shelter or rescue to adopt a local pet who needs a home.
All of ARF's adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, current of vaccinations, microchipped, de-wormed, and flea/tick preventative. All dogs are started on Heartgard. All dogs six months and older are tested for heartworm. All cats are tested for FeLV, and all cats older than six months are tested for FIV.
For the safety of the animal, adopted cats must be in carriers and dogs must be on leash when they leave ARF.
